10 Signs of Estrogen Dominance in Men and How to Address It

Estrogen is often portrayed as the enemy of men’s health. That is a mistake. Men need estrogen for sexual function, bone health, and numerous other physiological processes. The goal is not to eliminate estrogen but to maintain a healthy hormonal environment in which testosterone and estrogen can perform their respective functions.

Problems can arise when estrogen levels are excessively high, testosterone levels are low, or the relationship between the two becomes disrupted. This is often described as estrogen dominance, although it is important to understand that estrogen dominance is not a standardized medical diagnosis in men. Furthermore, many symptoms commonly attributed to excessive estrogen can also result from low testosterone, poor sleep, medication side effects, thyroid disorders, and other health conditions.

Estradiol testing is particularly relevant when investigating gynecomastia or symptoms arising during TRT. Blood work should be interpreted alongside symptoms, medications, and medical history rather than treated as a collection of numbers that must all be pushed toward the upper or lower end of their reference ranges.
