1. AGGRESSIVE STRENGTH QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"Life consists not in holding good cards but in playing those you hold well."
- John Billings

Many people like to think that successful people are lucky. That things just happened for them easily and that there was no struggle to achieve success. In fact metaphors such as "overnight success" and "she went from being a nobody to the top of the game" are very common. Professionals make things look easy. However, the reality is that success is not easy and that people that achieve amazing things had to work very hard to get there. Professionals went through many years of hard work and dedication to get to the point where there respective crafts look easier to others. Luck is rarely a part of the equation. Playing the game smart and stacking the deck in one's favor is however a large part of the equation.

I remember reading an interview with MMA legend Frank Shamrock in which someone stated that Frank is not a very good fighter and that he just has a lot of luck. Frank laughed and stated that he must be the luckiest guy in the world. Anyone that knows Frank, knows that he is a training maniac and one of the smartest fighters around. Sure he had a good base to work upon and is a natural athlete, but that that is only going to take you so far. To get to Frank's level you need far more than just having some natural abilities. Frank got to the top by working hard and working very smart. In addition, if you analyze his path to success, it will become abundantly clear that he had many serious obstacles to overcome.

The truth is that it is easy to say that successful people are lucky so you have an excuse for not being successful. This small and petty line of thinking is common and I see it everywhere. I remember a conversation with someone in which I stated that I was really impressed with the actress Natalie Portman. In addition to being a successful actress, she was a straight A student and got into Harvard (this was many years ago before she started her undergrad). My friend stated that anyone can get into Harvard and that Natalie only got in because she is a well known actress. Of course the person in question did not get into Harvard himself so he had to find a way to put Natalie down who accomplished what he failed to do. The reality is that getting into Harvard is not easy and moreover becoming a successful actress is even more difficult. Again it is easier to justify your own lack of success by belittling the accomplishments of others. It is far more productive, to be inspired by the success of others and apply that energy to your own goals.

What do winners do? Winners find ways to work with what they have. Instead of constantly comparing yourself to others, focus on self improvement and what you can do to achieve your goals. This is one reason why I discourage my online clients from having goals to look like other people. In addition to being unhealthy it is not realistic either if you body type is completely different. Why not focus on wanting to look like the best you that you are capable off? Get strong, lean, and have lots of energy and our will feel great and empowered. Be your own role model instead of trying to duplicate others. What you can duplicate is the work ethic and successful methods that other people use. Be inspired by others to actualize your full potential as a human being.

The Travelers Workout

I get a lot of questions from travelers on what they can do to stay in shape on the road. Many hotels have pathetic gyms and it is not practical to haul around a lot of equipment. Fortunately, there is a great a deal that you can do with your own bodyweight and there are several resistance devices on the market that are practical for traveling as well. Lets start with a bodyweight only routine.

Strength and Size Bodyweight Routine

M-W-F

Do A-1 and A-2 back to back. In other words, do a set of A-1, then wait a minute and then do a set of A-2. Wait another minute before doing the next set of A-1. Keep going back and forth, until you have done 5x5 on both A-1 and A-2.

Do B-1 and B-2 back to back. In other words, do a set of A-1, then wait a minute and then do a set of A-2. Wait another minute before doing the next set of A-1. Keep going back and forth, until you have done 5x5 on both B-1 and B-2.

Finish off the workout with the Mahler Body Blaster 1x25 reps

Muscular Endurance Routine

M-W-F

Do the above five exercises in circuit fashion. Go from one exercise to the next without any rest and then take a two minute break at the end of the circuit. Repeat the circuit five times.

Of course, you can combine the above routines to get the best of both worlds. Do the strength and size workout on Monday and Thursday and the muscular endurance workout on Tuesday and Friday.

Now, to really super charge your workouts on the road, invest in some Lifeline USA products. Here is what you need: TNT Cable, Power Pushup 2, and the Portable Power Jumper.
