1. AGGRESSIVE STRENGTH QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“No such thing as tough. There is trained and untrained.”
- From the movie “Man On Fire”
Success does not come to those who are the smartest or the toughest but to those who have the training combined with hard work and perseverance. A great example that being tough is not enough is the UFC fighter Tank Abbott. Tank was an extremely tough fighter with devastating punches. If things went his way, he rocked his opponents. However, most of the time things did not go his way and he lost to opponents that had better training and preparation. Some of these opponents were not as tough as Tank. Regardless, they persevered due to superior training. What was Tank’s flaw? Most of the time it was lack of training and preparation. On the other hand, UFC champ Randy Couture is the opposite. Randy is in his forties and dominates fighters that are have his age. Is Randy tough? You bet he is. But that is not all he is. Randy is arguably the best-trained fighter in the UFC and it shows. His combination of experience, training, intelligence, and toughness makes him a force to be reckoned with.
Training is important in any career the winners from the losers, the mediocre from the exceptional. Always look to your training when you want to be successful.

2. AGGRESSIVE STRENGTH TRAINING ARTICLE
S.M.A.R.T. Training
By Josh Henkin, CSCS, RKC
Alright, New Year’s resolutions are here!! I don’t really believe in resolutions, but anything to help focus and motivate people is perfect. Of course we don’t want to become a statistic, this all starts with effective goal-setting. There have been extensive books written on the subject of goal-setting because this can be the single most important factor for training and life success. It doesn’t have to be complicated though if you follow the S.M.A.R.T. system of goal-setting. Write out your own responses for this acronym and you will be well on your way to making new changes.
Specific: What do you want to achieve? If you want to lose body fat, what percentage do you want to become? If you want to improve a specific lift, answer how much you want to add.
Measurable: How will you measure progress? If body fat is the goal then will you use a tape measure, calipers, etc.?
Attainable: How realistic is this goal for you to obtain? If you squat 200 pounds right now, will you really be able to squat 600 by the end of the year?
Relevant: What does this goal mean to you? How will your life be a little better by achieving this goal?
Time-based: Give yourself short and long-term goals to help with accountability and being able to see an end in mind.
Follow these guidelines and watch how much more efficient your training becomes.
