Not having a plan is a sure-fire way to achieve nothing meaningful in life. If you wake up each morning with no plan for the day then I have a useful affirmation for you. Look in the mirror and tell yourself that you are an idiot three times. Then take your right hand and slap your right cheek. After a week of doing this, you will be tired of having a red face and will be motivated to make some changes. Weeks turn into months and months turn into years. All that is alive now is this moment and if you miss it, it is gone forever. If you want your long-term goals to be actualized you have to have some short-term goals. And to have effective short-term goals you have to now where you are going in the long run. Keep a notepad with you at all times to jot down ideas and action steps as they come to you. Make sure to take action on ideas with twenty-four hours. The longer it takes you to do something the less likely you are to do it.
Keeping yourself accountable is also important to see what the results of your daily actions are. Studies show that furniture factory workers are more efficient when they now how many pieces of furniture they are making per hour. When they know what the number is, there is a natural human drive to beat the number and be more efficient. The key is knowing what the number is. If you run a business and want to make more money you have to know where you are. If you make $2000 per month, then you can work on making $2500 per month. If you have no idea how much you make, then how are you supposed to improve? Start making some goals, take action, and stay accountable today.

In today’s training world, trainees tend to be overly focused on over training. Trainees will spend hundreds of dollars on supplements to combat over training and analyze their training programs to death to ensure that they are not over training. While over training is certainly a valid concern, obsessing on over training is not productive. You have to train hard to get bigger and stronger and often, you will be training on a fine line between productive training and over training. Sometimes you will cross the line. No big deal and it happens to everyone. Here is a useful cycling pattern that you can put into action for balance. Train hard for three weeks and then do one week of moderate training. Follow this cycling pattern regardless of how well training is going. In other words, even if you are having a great week of training in week three, cycle back in week four and then ramp it up again in week five.
